With all the attention in Hornets land on the upcoming NBA Draft, as Charlotte owns the #2 pick, you may have missed that rising second-year center, Mark Williams underwent surgery today, to repair a ligament in his right thumb. According to Hornets.com, the procedure was successful, and he is expected to make a full recovery. This does likely bring into question, his availability to participate in the Summer League in a couple of weeks, but given his strong finish to his rookie season, it wouldn’t be the end of the world.

Williams played in 43 games last season, and he averaged 9.0 points per game and finished among the top five in a number of rookie categories. Charlotte has been in desperate need of a big man after Al Jefferson produced an All-NBA season many moons ago, and with Williams in the purple and teal, it appears they have found their guy.
