It's something that even some of the best Hollywood scriptwriters could never have imagined, but according to Jonathan Alexander, who joined the Wilson and Norfleet Show earlier today on Sports Radio FNZ, Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers have agreed to a deal to bring him back to the city where he started his NFL career. Newton, 32, returns to the team that he played the first nine years of his NFL career with and a place where he threw for 29,041 yards and 182 touchdowns and ran for 4,806 yards and 58 touchdowns before being released prior to last season. Newton, the former league MVP back in 2015, holds a 68-55-1 career record with the Panthers, including fifteen wins and a Super Bowl appearance in that 2015 season.

Panthers fans found out early this morning that they will open at home against the New York Jets in Week One, pitting newly-acquired QB Sam Darnold against his former team to begin the season. The season highlights include Cam Newton's return to Charlotte in Week Nine when the Patriots come to town, and also a second straight season pitted against former Panthers coach Ron Rivera and the Washington Football Team in Week 11.

He was cut by the Carolina Panthers in 2020 before heading to New England, signing a 1-year, $7.5 million deal. He threw for 2,657 yards with 8 touchdowns and 10 interceptions last season.
