Panthers legendary WR Steve Smith returned to WFNZ earlier today as he gave Kyle Bailey his primer for the Panthers season as they head into training camp.

Steve started with the excitement for Panthers fans entering training camp with Bryce Young as he said it is somewhat similar to the hype surrounding camp when Cam Newton joined the team in 2011. Despite the excitement, Steve wants to see how much Bryce’s play can translate to wins this year with him being a rookie.

Despite many people believing that the Panthers will be WR by committee this year, Steve feels like Adam Thielen’s veteran experience makes him WR1 because you have to have a guy that can move around and know his surroundings, and Steve thinks this WR group has to be ready to show the league that they can play the game mentally and physically with a rookie QB at the helm.

One group that Steve is excited to see play out is how the Panthers backfield will look through out the year as he thinks the combination of Miles Sanders, Chuba Hubbard, Raheem Blackshear, and Camerun Peoples can be a complicated group to stop in the Panthers offense.

Steve also heaped praise for his former teamates in Muhsin Muhammad and Julius Peppers entering the Panthers Hall of Honor as Steve was greatful to play with both of them during his career and the honor couldn’t go to 2 better men.
