We’re inching closer to next week’s NBA Draft, and with the Finals over, that is now the focal point in the basketball world. The Hornets have been preparing for the draft since January, after a brutal start to the season, had them out of playoff contention right off the bat. A disappointing 27-55 record, did payoff when Charlotte did earn the #2 pick in the draft, just barely missing out on generational talent, Victor Webmanyama. With Charlotte being in control of how the rest of the draft will unfold, they have to decide whether or not to draft Brandon Miller, or Scoot Henderson, both of whom would be potential #1 overall picks in every other draft.

Bobby Marks, who is an NBA front-office analyst for ESPN, joined the Mac & Bone Show earlier today to talk about the off-season for the Hornets as he believes it’s very important saying “This next two or three weeks, are the most critical in franchise history, based where they are lined up with the draft, where they are going to free agency. I think Denver has shown, and teams have shown you don’t have to be in a big market to build a competitive roster”. We aren’t far removed from Charlotte winning 43 games and making the Play-In tournament. With everyone set to return right now, it appears that Charlotte has at least found the core to build around, and if they get the #2 pick correct, could have a foundation that leads to winning at a more consistent level. What does Bobby Marks think Charlotte should do at #2? He lands on the Miller side of the argument as he told Mac and Bone saying “Miller makes sense, big wing, can play multiple positions here, he feels a need for you, with Scoot you force something there to play alongside LaMelo”.

Marks isn’t the first person in the NBA media to say that Charlotte should pick the Alabama product, as a lot of people do expect that to be the pick. Charlotte would have to navigate having Miller on a roster that features Miles Bridges, and James Bouknight, both of whom have their fair share of off-the-court issues. If Miller is the pick, LaMelo has a spot-up shooter that will take this offense to another level, and give the franchise a legitimate wing player, something they’ve been searching for, for quite some time.

Make sure to catch the Mac & Bone Show every weekday from 6-10 AM on Sports Radio 92.7 WFNZ, and the WFNZ app.
