The Charlotte Checkers will be making their return to Truist Field in 2024 and this time there will be another team on the ice with them.

After hosting an open practice for the team this past December, the home of the Charlotte Knights will be hosting the first ever outdoor hockey game in Charlotte. The Checkers, who are currently preparing for the playoff opener tonight in the BoPlex, will face the Rochester Americans, who finished third in the AHL’s North Division this season. The game will take place on Saturday, January 13th with the expectation that the game will start at 7:00 PM weather and ice conditions permitting. Gates would open at 6:00 PM. The pushback date is the next day, January 14th, if needed.

This event will mark the first time that the Checkers will play an outdoor game. It also will be the twelfth outdoor game in American Hockey League history with Charlotte becoming the sixteenth different team to participate. The Americans have played an outdoor game previously, hosting the then-Lake Erie Monsters back in 2013.

Ticket information will be available later today for both Knights and Checkers season ticket holders. The general sales ticket information will be released at a later time.
