The Head Coach of the Charlotte Hornets Steve Clifford joined Kyle Bailey on Wednesday’s edition of The Clubhouse to preview his first season back with the Hornets and the expectations for the upcoming season.

Coach Clifford first addressed how he is connecting with his team as a lot of focus in the off-season has been on studying and communication so they can be ahead of schedule by the time of training camp. Steve also noted that another key was keeping some of the coaching staff from the previous regime on board to help with the transition period but it all changes once you go on the court and play games.

Steve Clifford also wanted to clarify a statement he made during media days on Monday regarding the Center rotation as he stated:

” What I said was is if we were playing today Mason (Plumlee) would start and Nick (Richards) would be the back-up. It was brought to my attention that I said that he (Mark Williams) wasn’t going to play and that couldn’t be further from the truth, so either I misinterpreted the question or my quote was misinterpreted.”

He also noted that Mark Williams has a lot of potential and while his style of play fits into the current NBA, he also brings something this Hornets team has needed.

The conversation with Coach Cliff ended with him looking at PJ Washington as Coach Clifford said everything he does on the floor makes sense to him and he is a quick learner to whatever is thrown at him. Steve also said he thinks PJ is one of those guys who can take it to the next level this year.
