If you didn’t already know, the Charlotte Hornets hired Boston Celtics assistant, Charles Lee earlier today, to be the next head of the franchise, which has undergone a lot of changes off the court, with a change in ownership, a new Director of Basketball Operations has been hired, and now they have their new voice to lead the team into this new era. Lee was hired over JJ Redick, who was a finalist for the job, despite not having any head coaching experience at any level of basketball. While Lee hasn’t been a head coach either, he’s been an assistant for a decade and has spent time with the Bucks and the Celtics, arguably the two best franchises in the Eastern Conference over the last 5 seasons. While he doesn’t specialize in one specific end of the court, he’s known for his ability to develop talent, which Charlotte is banking on, with guys like LaMelo Ball, Mark Williams, and Brandon Miller all in the early stages of their NBA careers.

Like every show did today on WFNZ, the Wes & Walker Show analyzed the Charles Lee hire, after nearly a month covering the coaching search. Walker, who hosts the Locked on Hornets Podcast, was impressed with the hire of Lee, mainly because Charlotte was able to get their #1 target, something that doesn’t normally happen with the Hornets franchise. After making a respected hire in the front office, followed by getting the top assistant on the market, Walker is optimistic there’s a new regime running the Hornets. As for Wes, who was on the side of hiring JJ Redick, applauded the hire, because the track record of Lee speaks for itself, and it’s undeniable he was most qualified to get the most out of LaMelo, Brandon Miller, and Mark Williams.

You can listen to the Wes & Walker Show (Charlotte’s #1 midday show), every week day from 12-3 PM, on Sports Radio 92.7 WFNZ, and the WFNZ app.
