Duke v UNC

Later tonight, the greatest rivalry in sports renews itself, as #3 North Carolina, hosts #7 Duke in the first of two meetings between the best teams in the ACC, and two teams more than capable of winning a national championship. Over the years the rivalry has been defined by moments, most recently, Caleb Love’s three-pointer that proved to be the dagger in a win over the Blue Devils in the Final Four, which officially retired Coach K, after a legendary run in Durham.

Another moment in the rivalry happened back in 2005 when freshman Marvin Williams banked in the go-ahead shot, to cap a UNC comeback in the final minutes to earn Roy Williams his first win over Duke, as UNC would go on to win the national championship the next month. Mavin would go on to enjoy a long career in the NBA, with stops in Atlanta and Charlotte along the way, but despite all the success he enjoyed at the NBA level, he’ll always be remembered for hitting that shot against Duke in 2005. On Friday, Williams joined the Wes & Walker Show, to talk about that shot, what he remembers about playing in the rivalry, and how he keeps up with the team, now that he’s in a front office role with the Hornets.

You can listen to the Wes & Walker Show every weekday from 12-3 PM, on Sports Radio 92.7 WFNZ, and the WFNZ app.
