In just their second year of existence, Charlotte FC has made the playoffs. The team stepped up with a huge performance on decision night on Saturday, scoring an early goal off the foot of Kerwin Vargas and holding on for the final eighty-plus minutes against a full strength Inter Miami squad.

A late goal in the consequential match for the NY Red Bulls against Nashville SC means that Charlotte FC will be heading on the road to New Jersey tomorrow as they attempt to advance to the first round of the playoffs against FC Cincinnati. The two sides played twice this season with a 1-1 draw back in March in Charlotte and a 2-2 draw in Red Bull Arena in June.

On Tuesday, Apple TV MLS analyst Taylor Twellman stopped by with the Mac & Bone Show and said that there isn’t much separation between the teams heading into this matchup either. “I don’t see anyone having a huge advantage here. I’d be stunned if this game goes to penalties.” This seems like a safe bet and could favor the Crown with what we saw from the team in penalties back in the League’s Cup run.

Twellman does see one slight advantage for Charlotte FC that could be a factor. “I do think the quality of player, the special player, that’s actually more on Charlotte’s side than the NY Red Bulls. Often time the cream has to rise to the top in these stalemate type of games.”

Will Charlotte FC’s special players show up enough to pull out the victory and advance to the next round? Find out tomorrow night over on our sister station, News Talk 1110 AM/99.3 FM WBT with Will Palaszczuk and Jessica Charman starting at 7:00 PM with the Charlotte FC Pre-Match Show.
