Carolina Panther vs New York Giants

After Jets quarterback, Aaron Rodgers suffered a season-ending injury on the fourth play of the game against the Bills, the outlook for that position is currently up in the air. Publicly the Jets have made it known that they are confident in Zach Wilson after he helped lead them to a comeback win on Monday night, but this is a guy who was benched in favor of journeymen backups just last season. With the move to trade for Rodgers, the Jets are built to win now, and for guys like Robert Saleh, and Joe Douglas, they can’t afford to see another losing season go by.

With the outward belief the Jets are showing in Wilson, they haven’t inquired about Panthers backup quarterback Andy Dalton, a seasoned veteran, and arguably the best backup in the NFL. But if things were to worsen in the Big Apple, Dalton could be a target for the Jets, to salvage a potentially lost season. Now Dalton was brought in to serve as a mentor to #1 overall pick Bryce Young, a job he has attacked with as much professionalism as you could’ve asked him to. Furthermore, if Young were to suffer an injury, you’d be more than confident that Dalton could step in, and lead the team to victories. But as Walker Mehl stated earlier today on the Wes & Walker show, if the Jets were to express interest in Dalton, Carolina should be willing to trade him.

If the season got to a point where the Jets were interested in trading for a backup quarterback, especially one as established, and proven as Andy Dalton, Carolina could demand a high day two draft pick, in next year’s NFL draft. Given all that Carolina gave up when they traded up to get the #1 pick, adding some draft capital for 2024, shouldn’t stand in the way of trading away Andy Dalton. Of course, Carolina would have to find a backup for Young after they waived Matt Corrall right before the season, but there are always QBs available to add throughout the season. Thankfully, for now, this is all speculation, but as we all learned on Monday night, a season can turn upside down at a moment’s notice, and if Wilson can’t prove he belongs on the field as a starter, you’d have to imagine the Jets would be willing to call Scoott Fitterer, to see what it would take to get Andy Dalton in New York.
