Charlotte FC entered this week in the best spot they had been all season in the table. The squad had won five of six in MLS contests despite being one of the more banged up teams in the league and having one of the more grueling schedules in the league in the past month. On Saturday night, the fatigue and injuries seemed to catch up to them, as they put together one of their worst defensive performances of the year in a 4-2 loss to Columbus Crew.

Charlotte Sports Today was joined this morning by Charlotte FC's number one overall draft pick in the MLS SuperDraft and former Clemson defender, Hamady Diop. The young defender talks about his strengths as a player, the goals he wants to achieve with the club and even which position he thinks he fits best on the back line.  "At center back, I can read the game really well and I can make passes that make the game," said Diop. "At full-back I'm really good at defending one on one attacks, I can defend a lot going forward. I like making passes, and breaking lines and that's something I really enjoy doing when I play in the back. I'm comfortable doing both and I'm definitely going to enjoy it." In his time at Clemson, Diop won the 2021 NCAA College Cup, clinching Clemson’s third national title alongside current Charlotte FC goalkeeper George Marks. Diop anchored a Tigers backline that pitched nine shutouts across his 20 starts, while also contributing three goals and three assists. The versatile defender was named to the second-team All-ACC team in both his sophomore (2021) and junior (2022) seasons. He was named to the ACC All-Freshman team in 2020. He also came through Monteverde Academy, the same school that produced current Charlotte FC forward Andre Shinyashiki.

The first match in the history of the expansion MLS franchise in Charlotte, the Charlotte FC, is now less than four days away, as the team travels to Washington DC to take on DC United in their opening match. Charlotte FC is coming off of a winless preseason down in Charleston, but there is a good feeling around the team following the final friendly against Inter Miami over the weekend, where the team got its first goal in 2-1 loss where Miguel Angel Ramirez said that he felt the team played much better than the score showed.

Bank of America Stadium was the focus of the Queen City sports fan on Tuesday night and for the first time in a while it wasn't about the struggles of the Panther franchise that has some concerns about its future. Instead, the focus was on the MLS expansion franchise that held its expansion draft as they selected five players for the new franchise. Forward Orrin McKinze Gaines II (Austin FC), defender Anton Walkes (Atlanta United) and Joseph Mora (D.C. United) were the players selected by the franchise that they held on to at the conclusion of the night and will be a part of the inaugural season of MLS soccer in Charlotte. The team also selected defender Tristan Blackmon (Los Angeles Football Club) and Ismael Tajouri-Shradi (New York City FC), both of whom were traded to other teams in exchange for valuable General Allocation Money (GAM) that can be used in free agency.
