Canada’s new WNBA franchise in Toronto will be called the Toronto Tempo. Its logo will feature a light-blue basketball with a T.

The team colors will be blue and red, reflecting a modern Canadian color palette.

The name was chosen from over 10,000 submissions and signifies control and rhythm in the game of basketball.

The team will begin playing at the Coca-Cola Coliseum in 2026.

Kilmer Sports Ventures owns the franchise, and team president Teresa Resch brings experience from the Raptors organization.

“Tempo is pace. It’s speed. It’s a heartbeat. And it’s what you feel when you step into the streets of this city, and in the energy of the people who call Canada home,” said Resch, Tempo’s team president. “As Canada’s WNBA team, I know the Tempo will set our own pace, move at a championship cadence, and inspire people across this country.”

Resch explained that the name was purposely created to work in both French and English, aiming to establish an inclusive brand for fans across the country.
