Ankle Woes for Young, Dalton Gets Starting Nod Against Bills

Carolina Panthers veteran quarterback Andy Dalton will start Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills, the team announced Friday. The decision stands regardless of whether Bryce Young is active.
Young, who is recovering from a high ankle sprain, is officially listed as doubtful for the 1 p.m. matchup. A league source told ESPN earlier this week that Young was not expected to play after an MRI confirmed the injury, though the team hopes he can return next week against Green Bay.
The rookie quarterback was hurt in the third quarter of last Sunday’s 13-6 win over the New York Jets, which marked the Panthers’ third straight victory and moved them to 4-3 on the season.
Head coach Dave Canales said throughout the week that Young was being evaluated “day-to-day,” as he spent practice sessions working with trainers on the sideline.
