Panthers CB Damarri Mathis Out for Season With Torn ACL

The Carolina Panthers will be without newly acquired cornerback Damarri Mathis for the entire season after he tore his ACL in practice this week, head coach Dave Canales said Friday.
Mathis, who was ruled out for Sunday’s opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars, will undergo surgery and be placed on injured reserve.
The 24-year-old defensive back was claimed off waivers from the Denver Broncos last week but never appeared in a game for Carolina.
A fourth-round draft pick in 2022, Mathis started 18 of 43 games with Denver over his first three NFL seasons.
