Kicker Matthew Wright, the most experienced player on the list, was cut, leaving rookie Ryan Fitzgerald as the lone kicker currently on the roster. Head coach Dave Canales noted last week the team is still evaluating options at the position.
Seventeen other players were waived, including quarterbacks Jack Plummer and Bryce Perkins. Plummer spent most of last season on the practice squad before joining the 53-man roster for the final two games. Perkins started in the preseason finale. Their departures leave the Panthers with starter Bryce Young and veteran Andy Dalton at quarterback.
Carolina must finalize 19 more cuts by Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline.
