On the eve of racing’s biggest day, NASCAR brought the action at Charlotte Motor Speedway with a thrilling finish in the Bet MGM 300 for the Xfinity Series.

On paper, William Byron’s win at Charlotte doesn’t come as a surprise given the fact that he led 71 laps and started 4th, but it was anything but easy as after the end of stage 2 William was caught speeding on pit road and had to go through the whole field to get back up front, which he did thanks to having the tire advantage over the leaders, and on the final restart, William got past Justin Allgaier to win his first Xfinity Series race since 2017.

This win was also huge for William as it marks his first win at his home track of Charlotte Motor Speedway in NASCAR’s top 3 series, and he pointed out that it feels great to get the monkey off of his back ahead of tomorrow’s Coke 600.

The starting lineup for the Coke 600 was also set today as despite all the talk surrounding Kyle Larson attempting the Memorial Day Double, it was a Hoosier in Chase Briscoe who took the pole, with Larson starting in 2nd. This makes Chase Briscoe the first driver since Jimmie Johnson in 2002 to win the pole for both the Daytona 500 and Coke 600 in the same year.

So buckle up for tomorrow, as Memorial Day weekend features the greatest weekend in all of motorsports, and if it’s anything like the Xfinity race today, we could be in for a grand treat.
