The first month of the ACC season is just about over, as January is drawing close to an end, and the conference is once again turned upside down. North Carolina has emerged as the team to beat, holding a two-game over surprised Florida State, which has overcome an awful non-conference season, to compete at the league's top. The middle of the league is jam-packed with a handful of teams, including Duke who entered the season as the overwhelming favorite to win. Duke isn't the only team to underachieve in the first full month of conference play, so has Miami, coming off a trip to the Final Four, and Clemson, who who seemed poised to break out after barely missing the NCAA Tournament.

It's not every day that you quit your job, to go on a cross-country, four-month long road trip, but that is exactly what Rodger Sherman did after he left The Ringer, and embarked on a journey attending as many college football games as possible. Sherman attended over 60 games, and traveled over 30,000 miles during the 2023 college football season, traveling all over the country to see games at different levels of the sport.

It feels like old times in the ACC, with all Big Four schools atop the standings, headlined by an undefeated North Carolina team, ranked in the top 5 of this week's AP Poll. Duke, NC State, and Wake Forest are all a game behind the Tar Heels, and all likely figure to play a role in the regular season title race, something that didn't seem likely when the season tipped off.

The state of North Carolina is a basketball state first and foremost, but there is a nice football tradition in the state as well, and earlier this week, some of the best college football players were notified they'd be inducted into the college football Hall of Fame. Among those, included former App State QB Armanti Edwards, a player that led the Mountaineers to their historic upset of Michigan, along with three straight FCS national championships, the first FCS program to do such a thing. After a legendary career, Edwards would have a brief stint in the NFlL, spending time with the Panthers and the Browns, before going on to win multiple Gray Cups in the CFL.

January is off and running, as earlier this week, college football crowned its national champion for the 2023 season, and this weekend, the NFL postseason gets underway with Super Wild Card Weekend. With that, conference play is in full swing around college basketball, including the ACC, which has multiple Big Four teams at the top of the league after the first full week of action. For many sports fans in the Carolinas, after the season that the Panthers endured, and the season that the Hornets are currently experiencing, ACC basketball might be more important than it has been in years past.

The wait for Julius Peppers is finally over. After two years of being passed over for the college football hall of fame, it was announced on Monday that Peppers will be inducted this coming December and will be honored on-campus during the 2024 season. Current head coach Mack Brown expressed his thoughts on Peppers’ induction […]

There wasn't a coach that talked more than Charlotte head football coach, Biff Poggi did last year in the preseason, entering his first season on the job. Poggi made bold proclamations that the 49ers would finish top-15 nationally defensively, and would compete to win the AAC, in their first year as a member. None of those things happened, as the 49ers finished 3-9 on the season, and they were 89th in scoring defense.

After suffering back-to-back losses against high-profile competition, #11 North Carolina was seeking a win over a ranked opponent, to validate its position in the polls at #11. That opportunity came in the Jumpman Invitational, as UNC met #7 and previously unbeaten Oklahoma, in Charlotte. After a scoreless first two minutes, R.J. Davis swished in the first bucket of the game, and the Tar Heels never looked back on their way to an 81-69 win over the Sooners. Davis was one of four starters to score in double figures, as Armando Bacot (14), Cormac Ryan (13), and Harrison Ingram (11), all produced on that end of the floor. Carolina was able to overcome another poor rebounding performance, as they lost the rebounding battle 41-34, another sign that this isn't your vintage UNC rebounding team.

During Tuesday’s edition of the Mac & Bone Show, North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame Class. Executive Director, Trip Durham, joined the show as he announced the newest inductees to the Hall of Fame. One of the names listed was former Davidson HC Bob McKillop, who joined Kyle Bailey this afternoon to reflect on the […]

The family of Tar Heel great Eric Montross reported his passing on Sunday at the age of 52. According to his family, he was diagnosed with cancer in March. From 1990 to 1994, Montross played for UNC’s legendary head coach, Dean Smith. During his freshman and sophomore years, he was also a teammate of Hubert […]
