Carolina Panthers v Seattle Seahawks

After missing last week’s game at Seattle, it looks like Bryce Young is set to start this Sunday’s game against the Vikings. Young, who suffered an ankle injury in the Monday night loss to the Saints in Week 2, hopes to use the week off to get his rookie season off and running.

One rookie that has started the season fast has been Texans QB CJ Stroud, who has thrown for over 900 yards in his first three games, and has yet to throw an interception, as Houston is coming off a big win at Jacksonville last week. Stroud, was the #2 pick in the draft, right behind Bryce Young, as Carolina opted to draft the Alabama product, over the Ohio State one. But after three weeks, Stroud has appeared to make the transition to the NFL much better than Young, and his play has many Panther fans questioning if they made the wrong draft choice. Of course, context matters in this conversation, as Stroud has been given better blocking up front, and has more production coming from his skill position players, allowing him to enjoy his success so far in his young NFL career.

Walker Mehl isn’t worried that Carolina made the wrong choice in franchise QB, but even he admitted today on the Wes & Walker Show, that he’d like to see Bryce Young play, and play well on Sunday, against one of the worst defenses in the NFL. Young has thrown for just 299 yards in his two NFL starts, with two touchdowns, and two interceptions. It hasn’t all been his fault, as Carolina’s offensive line has struggled to win up front, and his wide receivers aren’t getting consistent separation on their routes. Now comparing Young to Stroud is just part of what we do in today’s sports climate, and it is entirely way too early to draw any conclusions.
