Orlando Magic v Charlotte Hornets

In a critical offseason for the Hornets, Rod Boone, writer for the Charlotte Observer joins Mac & Bone to discuss what needs to be done to improve the team.

With the Hornets holding the number two overall draft pick, the decision has been narrowed down to either Scoot Henderson from G League team Ignite or Brandon Miller from the University of Alabama. Both young men are promising prospects but the Hornets must choose between drafting for fit or best player available. Rod Boone said that if the decision was up to him he would draft the best player available, which in his opinion is Scoot Henderson, but Brandon Miller would be the better overall “fit” pick.

When it comes to the current roster Rod Boone says that it may not be as deep as we first thought. The team struggled to stay afloat with the slew of injuries that plagued the team this past season, leading him to believe that with our salary cap room and draft capital this is the time to make serious moves.

Rod also discussed the potential return of Miles Bridges to the roster this season. The Hornets seem to want to bring him back for the right price and contract length, and Miles wants to make his return as well. As of right now, only time will tell if the Hornets and Bridges will come to a consensus to bring him back on the court.

Another player that was discussed is PJ Washington, who is a restricted free agent this offseason. The Hornets might give him an offer, and if he feels like he’s worth more he can shop the market. If a team makes him an offer he can bring it back to the Hornets and they have the option to match it. We should expect Washington to be on the team, barring a crazy deal that the Hornets aren’t willing to match.
